This garage was constructed as part of the temporary replacement for Fire Station 4 in Joplin, Mo., which was destroyed by a massive EF-5 tornado that struck the city May 22. The fire station is one of two temporary stations completed as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers critical public facilities mission, meant to provide replacement temporary facilities to fill critical public needs. The CPF mission is being managed by a planning and response team deployed from the Corps' New York District and the mission also includes the construction of temporary replacement facilities for eight schools that were severely damaged or destroyed in the tornado as well.
