PATROL BASE KAKAR, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Lance Cpl. Ray Tang, 23, a Fullerton, Calif., native and rifleman for 3rd Platoon, Company L, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, takes a break between standing post at Observation Post 22 in Gereshk, Afghanistan, July 20. “It’s been everything I expected; a lot of action,” said Tang. “There’s a little more down time than I expected. That’s the nature of combat I guess.” This is Tang’s first deployment since joining the Marine Corps in January 2010. After graduating high school in 2005, Tang went to college at the University of California-Irvine and is one year short of his bachelor’s degree in Biology.
