PACIFIC OCEAN – (May 11, 2018) Military Sealift Command civilian mariners assigned to the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) deck department operate a survival and life at sea boat during a personnel transfer evolution at Wake Island, May 11. Land is currently deployed as an expeditionary submarine tender conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance. Land and USS Frank Cable (AS 40), the U.S. Navy’s only two submarine tenders, both homeported in Apra Harbor, Guam, provide maintenance, hotel services and logistical support to submarines and surface ships in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
