Tonya Jones, representing a Samoan high chief’s daughter, prances on stage in full ceremonial regalia during the grand finale of a Samoan Taualuga dance performed at the Lee Theater May 17. The performance was part of the Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Observance hosted by 23rd Quartermaster Brigade. The event celebrated the contributions of Asian-American and Pacific Islanders to the country and featured recitals from installation Soldiers, a mixed martial arts demonstration via the MMA Institute and traditional dance performances courtesy of the Halau Kahealani Group and Island Roots. Dr. Francis H. Dong of the Virginia/DC Export Council was the event’s guest speaker.
