Steven Rintamaki, who was killed in 2004 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom, speaks at a Memorial Day and Battle of Midway commemoration ceremony held on Naval Station Everett. Memorial Day is observed on the first Monday of every May to remember the people who died while serving in the United States' armed forces. The Battle of Midway was the turning point of the United States' victory over Japan in the Pacific theater, and allowed the U.S. and the Allied Forces to concentrate their efforts to defeat Germany in Europe and end World War II.
