U.S. Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Trigg scans for threats after taking off from a remote airfield in a C-27J Spartan in Qalat, Afghanistan. Trigg is a loadmaster assigned to the 702nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The C-27, operated by a joint Army and Air National Guard crew, gives U.S. military troops a unique, short takeoff and landing capability, providing access to airstrips otherwise unreachable by fixed-wing aircraft.
