COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Helmand province, Afghanistan -- Marines with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), work on a tank part which allows the main gun to fully traverse. The tank mechanics must ensure both the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank and M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicles remain operable to successfully complete the unit’s missions.
