Col. A.T. Ball, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade commander presents Chief Warrant Officer William Kearns, an aviator with Troop A, 2nd Squadron 6th Cavalry Regiment with an Air Medal with a "V" device for valor at Forward Operating Base Warrior, Kirkurk, Iraq on May 4. Kearns received the award for placing himself at risk while piloting an OH-58 Kiowa Helicopter. He supplied suppressive fire, armed reconnaissance and security in support of 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment. His decisive actions allowed the ground unit to successfully defeat anti-Iraqi-forces.
