Nowicki, executive officer of the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), reads his orders to assume command during a change of command ceremony. At the ceremony, Nowicki relieved Capt. Joseph R. Olson as the commanding officer. America is moored at its homeport of Naval Base San Diego and is conducting a planned maintenance availability in preparation for the ship’s next tour of duty.
