U.S. Army veteran Capt. Steve Bortle waits patiently to race in the 50 meter backstroke in his classification in the swimming event June 8, 2018, at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Cadet Gymnasium Natatorium at the 2018 Department of Defense Warrior Games. The DoD Warrior Games are conducted from June 1 – 9. It is an adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Approximately 300 athletes representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command, United Kingdom Armed Forces, Canadian Armed Forces, and the Australian Defence Force will compete in archery, cycling, track, field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and - new this year - powerlifting and indoor rowing.
