BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (June 10, 2018) -- German Army Lt. Col. Jens Janis (right), liaison officer with Train, Advise and Assist Command-North, assigned to NATO's Resolute Support Mission, explains the Heckler and Koch G36 rifle magazine release mechanism to U.S. Army Spc. Nicholas Ernst, an advanced field artillery tactical data systems operator assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Artillery, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, June 10, at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Janis instructed approximately 50 service members on the proper use of the G36 rifle and the Heckler and Koch P8 German service pistol, providing the opportunity for NATO partners to earn the coveted Schutzenschur German marksmanship badge while deployed.
