180524-N-N0701-0004 ATLANTIC OCEAN (May 24, 2018) Scott Chappell, a marine biologist from Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic, releases a tagged Kemp's ridley sea turtle back into the ocean off the coast of Virginia Beach, Va. The tag is used to track the turtle’s movements and the release was conducted as part of a Navy research project with the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center. The turtle was tagged under the Virginia Aquarium stranding agreement with National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), and is covered by NMFS sub-permit under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Endangered Species Act permit #TE01150C-1.
