Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder visited airmen from the 127th Wing, Selfridge Air National Guard Base at Lielvarde Air Base, Latvia, June 13, 2018. He was joined by Hon. Nancy Pettit, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, and Brig. Gen. John D. Slocum, 127th Wing Commander. Lielvarde Air Base has been one of the primary focuses for capability development of the Michigan National Guard’s 25-year State Partnership Program with the National Armed Forces of Latvia. Areas of collaboration between Latvian and Michigan airmen have included air traffic control, airfield management, medical response, security forces, munitions handling, fire protection, and others (Air National Guard photos by 1st Lt.
