U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (June 13, 2018) The Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), front, and the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 56) transit the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, June 8, 2018. Iwo Jima, homeported in Mayport, Fla., is on deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
