U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Case Cunningham, commander/leader, U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron "Thunderbirds," climbs up to his jet to launch out for the Cleveland National Air Show, Cleveland, Ohio, Sept. 5, 2011. The Thunderbirds fallen hero for the Cleveland National Air Show is U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Robert L. Gilbert II. The Richfield, Ohio, native was killed March 18, 2010, in Badghis province, Afghanistan, on his twenty-eighth birthday. His name was flown on Thunderbird 1's jet during the air show in his honor. The Thunderbirds fallen hero recognition program was recently established to honor men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
