U.S. Marine Corps Rct. Douglas Wright, an 18-year-old native of Summerville, S.C., poses for a picture during Basic Warrior Training July 6, 2018 on Parris Island, S.C. Wright is with Platoon 2057, Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 14, 2018. “I joined the Marines to be the best, I wanted to make a difference in my life and saw how the Marines carry themselves and hold themselves to a higher standard, and I wanted that,” said Wright. “One thing that has stood out to me about the training is the brotherhood of this platoon, we have gotten really tight over the past couple months, and every recruit here feels like a brother to me.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps.
