Maj. Gen. E. John Deedrick, Jr., the 1st Special Forces Command’s commanding general passes the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) unit colors to Col. Owen G. Ray signaling the transfer of command from Col. Guillaume N. Beaurpere at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, July 11. The passing of the unit colors serves as a definitive point in time for the responsibility of command to pass from the old commander to the new.
