180718-N-ZF498-053 SAN DIEGO (July 18, 2018) - Cmdr. Josh Gamez (center), Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) public works officer briefs the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations and Environment (EI&E) the Honorable Mrs. Phyllis L. Bayer about proposed and upcoming projects during a tour of the NBSD graving dock. The graving dock provides a dry dock environment for short maintenance projects on smaller ships. NBSD is planning to expand the dock to service larger ships as the base becomes homeport to more 70 ships within 10 years. Mrs. Bayer is touring Navy and Marine Corps installations throughout Southern California to assess EI&E issues throughout the region.
