Staff Sgt. John Bear, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), talks to fellow teammates after receiving the Purple Heart during a valor awards ceremony hosted by the group Sept. 15, 2011, at the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. Thirty Soldiers from the group were honored in the ceremony where they were awarded respectively: two Silver Stars, seven Bronze Stars with “V” device, 10 Army Commendation Medals with “V” device and 11 Purple Hearts.
