180723-N-JY822-1027 MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII (July 23, 2018) — Lt. j.g. K. Narumi of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force speaks with U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Grant Regelin and Lt. Jessica Wells, attached to Patrol Squadron 46, in the tactical operations center on Marine Corps Base Hawaii during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 23. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships between participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.
