180723-N-VR594-1126 AT SEA (July 23, 2018) Royal Australian Navy Lieutenant Commander Gordon Jardine, assigned to Royal Australian Navy landing helicopter dock ship HMAS Adelaide (L01), speaks with Philippine Navy sailors after boarding assault amphibious vehicles (AAV) in the well deck of the Philippine Navy landing platform dock BRP Davao Del Sur (LD 602) during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 23. This is the first time that Davao Del Sur has conducted operations with U.S. Marine AAVs. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.
