180723-N-ZH960-066 AT SEA (July 23, 2018) Lt. Cdr. Frederick Crayton and Command Master Chief Richard Schafer observe mine sweep operations during Mine Countermeasure Exercise (MCMEX) 2JA 2018 on board Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Chief (MCM 14). MCMEX 2JA 2018 is an annual bilateral exercise held between the U.S. Navy, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) and this year the Indian Navy to strengthen interoperability and increase proficiencies in mine countermeasure operations.
