The rifle detail of 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, presents arms during the playing of taps concluding the memorial service for Cpl. Michael Dutcher at Patrol Base Fires, Sept. 20. The Marines of 1/5 paid tribute to the life, service and sacrifice of the Asheville, N.C., native. Dutcher was killed in action Sept. 15 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Sangin. Dutcher, remembered as a knowledgeable teacher, strong leader and a good friend who put others before himself, graduated from Asheville High School in 2007 and was a Junior ROTC cadet prior to enlisting during his senior year of high school.
