PRNG 130th EN Works on Community Service

Members of the PRNG 130th Engineer Battalion worked at the Miguel Such Metropolitan Vocational School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, making repairs and doing maintenance as a community service before the start of the new school period, Aug. 7-9.
The 45-strong group, composed of Soldiers from the 215th EN Co. (Vertical) and the 892nd MRBC, worked on the green areas, repaired damaged plumbing and electrical connections, pressure-washed walkways and buildings and repaired acoustic ceilings inside the classrooms. Part of the group was tasked to pick-up and carry away vegetation and debris left by Hurricane María last year.
The group received the visit from the 101st Troop Command Commander, Col. (P) Miguel A. Méndez and Lt. Col. Juan Álvarez, Training and Operations Officer for the 101st TC. They talked to the school personnel, saw the progress of works and spoke with the Soldiers.
The origins of the Miguel Such can be traced back to 1932 but it wasn’t until 1950 when it received the name it bears today as a result of a merge of an industrial and a vocational school. This public school gives the opportunity to low income students to start a career as it offers different vocational programs to choose from starting from grade 10 to 12.
