    Coast Guard Reserve Petty Officer 2nd Class Jim Dickerson, the training officer and captain for Fire Station 28, uses a flare to ignite a gas powered fire fighting training platform at Air Station Astoria, Ore., Aug. 8, 2018.

    Dickerson has 18 years of firefighting experience and instructs Coast Guard members of the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Team on how to deal with fires that may exceed temperatures of 2,500 degrees fahrenheit.
