Master Sgt. Dan “Chef” Gross, a C-130 Hercules flight engineer within Al Udeid’s 746th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron is tasked with monitoring aircraft systems and analyzing emergencies. In addition to his job specific duties, Gross is also a former restaurant owner with over 30 years of culinary experience which he utilizes during long flights. He uses the aircraft’s galley oven to bake muffins, specialty breads, strudel and other pastries for pilots, passengers and crew. The traditional reservist from Maxwell’s 357th Airlift Squadron calls his skill a “unique way to serve.” He also warms hot towels for pilots, passengers and aircrew. Gross says nothing is too difficult when you've planned and prepared ahead if you know the limitations of both you and your equipment. He adds, “The end result will have everyone on board smiling from ear to ear.”
