Fort Drum officials hosted a site visit with Karen Durham-Aguilera, Army National Military Cemeteries executive director, and invited guests on Aug. 22.

The visit included an inspection of the POW cemetery on Route 26, an aerial installation tour and a stop at Haudenosaunee Village. The Haudenosaunee people were related to the St. Lawrence Iroquois and had inhabited a large number of villages in the Jefferson County area at different times in history.

There are nearly 800 historic sites and 295 prehistoric sites located at Fort Drum, and the Fort Drum Cultural Resources Branch act as a steward to preserve and protect the places, objects and records associated with the national heritage that can be found on post.
