This list of deaths from the Syracuse, N.Y. Herald in October 1918 illustrates the extent of the influenza epidemic which swept across the world in 1918. Camp Syracuse, a recruit camp outside the city on the grounds of the New York State Fair, with 12,000 Soldiers stationed there, was one reason the disease hit the city hard. Soldiers moving from camp to camp spread the disease which became known as the "Spanish Flue."
