Sri Lanka –Chief of Defence Staff, Adm. Ravindra Wijegunaratne, presents a challenge coin to U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Christopher Kolakowski, a squad leader with India Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/1, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), while on a regularly scheduled deployment of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th MEU, August 25, 2018. The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and the embarked Marines of the 13th MEU conducted a theater security cooperation exercise with the Sri Lankan Navy and Navy Marines. Part of a growing U.S.-Sri Lanka naval partnership, the exercise was also an opportunity for U.S. Seventh Fleet to explore local logistics support services for visiting naval forces operating throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
