180828-N-UX013-2556 GULF OF ADEN (Aug. 28, 2018) Ensign Sean Standard, left, and Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Ray Sanders take inventory of a large cache of over 1,000 AK-47 automatic rifles in the hangar bay of the guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109). The ship’s visit, board, search and seizure team seized the weapons from a skiff during a flag verification boarding as part of maritime security operations. Dunham is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
