DAHLGREN (Aug. 7, 2018) – Kim Wendt – a Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) software engineer – briefs military personnel and senior scientists and engineers about the Sly Fox Mission 23 demonstration known as the Autonomous Remote Tactical Engagement Multi-Domain Intelligence Swarm (ARTEMIS). Wendt was among seven junior scientists and engineers (less than two years out of college) who developed ARTEMIS to engage in enhanced ISR missions using unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), artificial intelligence, and machine learning to detect targets efficiently and effectively. While the use of UGVs met the requirements set forth by Mission 23, the team envisions a more complex system that expands to the aerial domain.
