U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jennifer Avery smiles for an official Air Force photo during pilot training. Avery was the first female to the fly the B-2 Spirit. She is the first and only female to fly stealth bomber in combat, and was also the first female to fly the B-1 in combat. Together with her husband, Lt. Col. John Avery, the couple were the first husband-wife team to fly the B-2. The aviators served with the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman AFB and then with the base’s Missouri National Guard 131st Bomb Wing.
