Marines with Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, dig in to secure the legs of their M777 howitzer. At any moment the Marines may be called for a fire mission, so maintaining their positions is essential. They must be able to respond immediately at a moment’s notice, often causing Marines to leave in the middle of a meal, a workout at the gym, or even in the middle of a shower to prepare their weapons system in support of the coalition forces in the fight.
