Ohio Army National Guard Spc. Jamel Givens holds a Blue Star Flag following a call to duty ceremony honoring Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Sept. 15, 2018, in Cincinnati. The flag is an official banner authorized by the Department of Defense for display by Families who have members of the armed forces serving during war or hostilities, for the duration the service member is deployed. Members of the unit are deploying to the National Capital Region in Washington, D.C. to provide personnel support to the homeland defense mission there, which includes the use of radar, ground based air defense systems and communications equipment.
