190906-N-IY469-023 – Acupuncture needles are laid out before a treatment session. “Acupuncture is a technique of what we call traditional Chinese medicine,” said Neida Fedison, an acupuncturist in the Interdisciplinary Pain Medicine Clinic at NMCP. “The more complex part of Chinese medicine is the belief that the whole body contains energy. The energy gets blocked and disrupts the natural balance of the body when we suffer any physical, mental or emotional trauma. What acupuncture does is help to regain that balance.”
