Army Sgt. Barry W. Castro was presented a Purple Heart Medal Oct. 13 at the USACE Forward Operating Base Shank area office located in the Logar province of Eastern Afghanistan by AED Commander, Col. Christopher Martin. Sgt. Castro was wounded in combat Sept. 4, 2011. Sgt. Castro is a force protection team member and attached to the AED-North detachment. Sgt. Castro is deployed from Lebanon, Tenn., and is a native of Nashville, Tenn.
