U.S. Army Maj. Gen. John F. King, commander of U.S. Army North’s Task Force-51, conducts a site survey of South Carolina National Guard Engineers as they build a barrier to prevent flooding off of highway 501 in Conway, S.C., Sept. 18, 2018. King is responsible for coordinating domestic federal response to disasters that occur nationwide. Approximately 3,090 Soldiers and Airmen have been mobilized to respond and participate in recovery efforts as Hurricane Florence caused flooding and damage to the state.
