ARCTIC OCEAN – Tim Stanton (right) discuss how a thermal electric generator works with (left to right) Terrance Green and Roslyn Albee of the Naval Post Graduate School and Amanda Camarato of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB-20) approximately 100 miles northwest of Barrow, Alaska, in the Chukchi Sea. Approximately 30 scientists are aboard the Healy deploying sensors and autonomous submarines in the Arctic to study stratified ocean dynamics and how environmental factors affect the water below the ice surface for the Office of Naval Research. The Healy is one of two ice breakers in U.S. service and is the only military ship dedicated to conducting ice research in the Arctic.
