180919-N-AO674-0091 ATLANTIC OCEAN (Sept. 19, 2018) Air Force Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy, commander, U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), meets with Sailors and Marines in the hangar bay aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), which is currently positioned off the coast of North Carolina as part of the Department of Defense-wide response to areas affected by Hurricane Florence. While aboard, O'Shaughnessy spoke to the embarked Sailors and Marines, toured the ship, and met with the leadership of Expeditionary Strike Group 2 and Amphibious Squadron 6. Under the direction of U.S. Naval Forces Northern Command, Kearsarge, USS Arlington (LPD 24) and embarked elements of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit were deployed ahead of the hurricane and followed it in to provide Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA), if requested.
