Two BORSTAR marine units, along with Office of Field Operations officers and New Hanover and Pender County Sheriff Deputies assisted with search and rescue efforts north of Wilmington, NC in and around the Northeast Cape Fear River where the water is rising. The river in this area is expected to crest today. The marine assets were deployed to conduct welfare checks on two families. One family was not interested in vacating their home and the other had already vacated their home. One of the units found an abandoned dog and turned it over to the SO. Another unit assisted the SO when movement was seen in a flooded home. The officers and agents confirmed the presence of cats and that they had sufficient food and water and were not in danger. After welfare checks were complete, the team conducted area recon and patrol on the Northeast Cape Fear River.
