Pederson, a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense specialist with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3 and a San Francisco native, holds his breath as a gas mask is removed during the decontamination process of monthly assessment consequence management of hazardous materials training aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Oct. 19. After having their masks removed, Marines must hold their breath until exiting the vapor contamination area. These monthly training events are completed to maintain up-to-date hazmat safety proficiency.
