The South Carolina National Guard’s 125th Multi-Role Bridge Company, deployed from Abbeville, S.C. is prestaging equipment and rehearsing their plan of flood-response operation that included offloading large rafts from the Carroll Ashmore Campbell Marine Complex in Georgetown, S.C., to be joined together to make a larger raft with room to fit a commercial truck or other priority vehicles, which would then be ferried by boat to the other side of the river, Sept. 23, 2018. The 125th MRBC deployed 102 Soldiers to Georgetown, S.C. to work on a secondary plan of action in anticipation of possible flooding where the Highway 17 “Ocean Highway” bridges converge at Waccamaw and Great Pee Dee Rivers in the Winyah Bay area. The latest update on expected flood levels in the area is 10 to 12 feet when the water is expected to be at its highest. There are approximately 2,200 South Carolina National Guard Soldiers, 40 Airmen and 100 State Guard on duty as well as 28 Soldiers and Airmen from Pennsylvania and Alaska National Guard and 8 troops from the New York National Guard and 100 Tennessee National Guard assisting response efforts from the impacts of Hurricane Florence.
