SOUTH CHINA SEA (Sept. 27, 2018) Gunners Mate 3rd Class William Mooney shoots a .50 caliber machine gun as Marines, assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), fire a Light Armored Vehicle’s M242B Bushmaster 25mm chain gun during a Defense of the Amphibious Task Force (DATF) drill aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1). As part of the DATF, the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, assumed a security posture, to simulate traveling through potentially dangerous waters.
