Kathmandu, Nepal (Sept. 27) -- Nepali Army, Nepal Armed Police Force, and Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Firefighting & Rescue service extract mock injured personnel from a simulated partially collapsed building at TIA. The search and rescue exercise was part of TIA's Disaster Response Plan field training exercise to evaluate and validate new revisions in the emergency plan. A structural engineer from the National Society of Earthquake Technology (NSET) evaluated all engineering practices. The building on the right was constructed by USACE's Alaska District, as part of the Pacific Ocean Division. It is used for foam loading into fire trucks, and also serves as the alternate control tower for the aerodrome. POD participated in the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) Pacific Resilience Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE), Sept. 25-28, in partnership with the Nepali Army and Nepal Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), in Kathmandu, Nepal, and attended by international participants from 14 countries, along with more than 300 civilian and military disaster response professionals.
