Bryan Howay, the Alpha Company, 1-149th Inf. Regt. commander and a native of Taylorsville, Ky., during a ceremony at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, Oct. 21. An improvised explosive device injured Sumner, a 21-year-old convoy gunner on his first deployment, when it detonated near his vehicle Aug. 28.
