Iraqi Staff Lt. Gen. Abdul-Wahab al-Saedi, deputy commander, Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, speaks about defeating ISIS on the battlefield to an audience of military and civilian personnel at U.S. Special Operations Command headquarters on MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., Oct. 19, 2018. Al-Sa’edi is one of the few CTS generals to have served as a Special Forces officer in the former regime, and later as the field commander of CTS forces in nearly every major operation against the Islamic State. He led Iraqi forces participating in battles such as Bayji, Tikrit, Ramadi, and Fallujah. His reputation peaked during the 2016–17 battle liberating Mosul. Immensely popular within the CTS ranks, he is referred to as “the incorruptible” due to his honesty and to his willingness to endure the same hardships experienced by his men.
