Columbus, Neb., native Cpl. Nicholas Hardesty, the machine-guns squad leader for 3rd Platoon, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, provides security while halted during a patrol. The 22-year-old Hardesty has gained an appreciation for the quality of life in the United States after seeing how people live in Afghanistan.
