A prehistoric Salinan archaeological site is being capped to protect it in situ in order for training to occur in one of the Fort Hunter Liggett training areas. Although capping archaeological sites is commonly done, this one is unusual because it is being reinforced to accommodate heavy equipment such as 20-ton Strykkers. It will require around 90 dump truck loads of soil, hydroseeding, and a year of new vegetation before the site is ready for vehicle traffic.
