Museum Educators Joseph Miechle and Zach Smyers from the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, visited Salem Middle School in Virginia Beach, Virginia to deliver an engaging educational program about explorers and navigation. 6th Grade students had the opportunity to learn about Rear Admiral Richard Boyd’s flights to the North and South Pole, the contributions of John Cabot and Francisco Coronado and how to plot courses on maps. Students had the opportunity to utilize 3D printed nocturnals, which were made in-house at the museum. The museum’s educational programs are aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning, and are available free of charge to area schools.
