U.S. Marine Sgt. Christopher Bickel, Marine Air Traffic Control Mobile Team assistant team leader, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares his night vision goggles before checking the alignment of phantom lights on an austere landing zone at Chabelley Airfield, Djibouti, Oct. 21. Bickel is originally from Lima, Ohio. He is part of a team that sets up ALZs, which allow aircraft such as C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster III cargo transport aircraft to land anywhere in the world, day or night.
